Jorge Alegría is chief executive officer of the Mexican Derivatives Exchange (MexDer) in Mexico City. He has held the position since 2003.[1] Alegría serves as member of the board of directors of the International Options Markets Association (IOMA) and is also a professor at the Mexican Autonomous Technological Institute (ITAM).


Prior to joining the Mexican Derivatives Exchange, Alegría was the chief executive officer and managing director of ABN Amro Securities Mexico from January 2000 to April 2002 and before that, was executive vice president of Scotiabank Inverlat from 1993 to 2000. [2]

Alegria has also served as member of the board of The Mexican Brokers Association (AMIB), Asigna and the Mexican Stock Exchange.[3]

Jorge Alegria, CEO of the Mexican Derivatives Exchange (MexDer), has seen his share of change since joining the exchange in 2003. The exchange has partnered with CME Group to offer its products on the CME Globex platform and vice versa. It also is set to launch its new derivatives trading platform in March. Alegria also sees an opportunity in its bond contract and the possible addition of commodities. In this interview with John Lothian, he also outlines the regulatory reforms in Mexico and their impact on the derivatives market.[4]


Alegría graduated with a degree from Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México.
